Understand Diverse Civilizations and Cultures and Contribute to the Global Community

The aim of the Program in Comparative Civilizations and Cultures is to build comparative studies of civilizations and cultures as a foundation of world peace. In this program, students are trained to be experts who engage in comparative study of a variety of civilizations and cultures, discover ways to truly understand different cultures, and make a positive contribution to the global community.

Constructing Studies of Comparative Civilizations and Cultures from the Viewpoints of Four Educational Fields

Japanese language education is supported by research from a variety of fields. Teachers of Japanese are required not only to teach Japanese but also to play an important part in the research that supports Japanese language education. In this program, through practical instruction in small classes, we aim to produce experts who will be able to play a vital role in the development of Japanese language education.

Contributing to World Peace through Diversified, Interdisciplinary Approaches

In order to resolve conflicts which stem from differences of civilizations or cultures in areas around the world and thus contribute to world peace, it is essential to nurture an environment where people can truly appreciate the differences of others. The achievement of such goals lies in the formation of experts who can approach their target areas of research from many different angles in an interdisciplinary way, and who can contribute to such educational institutions and international organizations dedicated to world peace and the preservation and development of world culture.

Giving Support in the Fields of Language Acquisition and Data Processing

The acquisition of language that is closely connected with the target areas of research is an indispensable aspect in understanding research data or conducting various comparative and contrastive studies. It is also essential to learn data processing skills, and more specifically, such sophisticated skills as the processing of data from multiple languages and the practical application of corpora.
